At any time there will be 15 to 20 searches underway within the Michigan
Conference, with a similar number more anticipated in churches not yet ready to
list. A listing of current vacancies, updated monthly, can be secured by
subscribing to UCC Employment Opportunities available from the UCC Office
for Church Life and Leadership.
If you are a pastor authorized by a UCC Church and Ministry Committee to
search for a call within the United Church of Christ, you will be interested in
the details of our placement procedures as listed below.
Placement Procedures of the Michigan
Conference
We share only
official United Church of Christ profiles with our congregations in the search
process. Official profiles include those of persons holding Full Standing
in the United Church of Christ, seminarian In-Care who are in the process of seeking
ordination, Disciples of Christ ministers who have been granted Ordained
Minister Partner Standing, and those already ordained by another denomination who have received
Privilege of Call expressing a desire to change denominational affiliation.
The Placement Staff will:
1. Your profile will be shared with any Search Committee upon request (yours or
theirs, after receiving your approval).
2. We may also suggest your candidacy to congregations where needs, wants and
gifts appear to complement one another, but will first solicit your permission.
3. Your profile will remain in circulation for a period of one year from the
time of its receipt unless you specifically request otherwise.
4. The Conference Office sends out one-page descriptions of current openings;
after churches have received clergy profiles, the church Search Committee will
contact candidates and mail out the church profile.
In return, we ask you to help us in the following ways:
1. Each of the Associate Conference Ministers carries the responsibility for
placement in his/her own area. Correspondence, however, should be directed to
the Conference Center in East Lansing, as this avoids duplication of effort.
2. After you have received a church profile or been in correspondence with a
congregation, we urge you to keep in touch with the Associate Conference
Minister for that area.
3. We ask you to notify us if you accept a call elsewhere, so that your
profile can be withdrawn from needless circulation.
